Happy Holidays

Posted on - 24/12/2012

Happy Holidays to all our friends, customers, and colleagues from us all here at the Bessie May Studio.

We hope all your Christmas gift crochet and knitting projects are all complete, and wrapped ready for giving.

Our Studio is closed from today 24 December, until 2nd January inclusive, but we are already excited about connecting in the New Year.

We thought we would share some Christmas Stocking ideas from young budding designers.

HAPPY HOLIDAY – & happy knitting

Rhubarb & Custard Candy Twist

Posted on - 19/12/2012

The rhubarb and custard colour fasination continues to grow at the Bessie May Studio – cute ‘candy twists’ emphasis the colour combinations – can you guess what the design is going to be?

All finished, but other colour combinations being put together, for a very different look and feel. All created using Bessie May Smitsy, in soft fine merino aran weight.

Ready for a new Bessie May Knit Kit to be launched in the new year.

Smitsy Heritage Flower Squares Grow Christmas Count Down 2

Posted on - 19/12/2012

Ok – update on the Christmas Project Count Down at the Bessie May Studio.

Late, late, late, night last night, pushing ahead with the Heritage Flower Crochet Throw – no memory of even when the light was actually turned off.

However, all is good – design is moving forward. Three different flower types designed, but maybe going to only use two of these.

Fabric chosen and ordered, just in case it is needed – feel a fabric framing is going to be a good option, but time will tell.

Time to share a couple of pics of work in progress, and on with the creation.

Christmas Count Down

Posted on - 18/12/2012

This time next week, it will be the end of Christmas Day. That thought has just made us all panic at the Bessie May Studio. If you are anything like us then you will have been over ambitious about the number of gifts that you are going to have completed, and have designs, yarn and things on order that you have your fingers crossed are all going to be ready for completion before the end of this week.

Major project started at the Bessie May Studio, a very special throw, for a very special person, crochet all the way. Subtle but feminine colours chosen, to make a deep warm throw, so still loads more to do, as at the moment it is not bigger than a babies blanket. Will it be finished on time, should it be lined in a pretty fabric, how big should it be, how late should it be worked on until? There are just so many questions.

Colours selected are shown below, and happy to share they are coming together just perfectly for the aim of something feminine, but a little bit heritage.

Designed to go in a pretty bedroom, which is being redecorated this weekend, and will have wallpaper with soft pink large roses over it, with a traditional but country feel, with matching soft satin embossed dusky pastel pink curtains. Gosh I could just curl up in it myself.

I just hope the special lady does not look at this post, but wanted to share the panic, and then can share the finished item, in the beautiful room soon. That make’s me think it can be done..

Working in Bessie May Smitsy, fine merino, aran wool, so a lovely weight and so, so soft. Big design, for big impact, but also soft and gentle heritage feel. Must stop talking about it, and progress – and also order the lining material, as think if it does not need it I can use it for something else, but if it does, then at least I have it.

Wish me luck, in getting this project all completed and wrapped, and also without me so tired I can’t wake up on the special morning. I will share more as it grows.

Our wishes of luck and energy go to all those frantic gift makers out there. Remember to step away from time to time and grab more caffeine. We know from the things being ordered from us that many are going to wake up to unwrap beautiful scarfs, blankets and mitts, (but we can’t tell you who!).

Winner – Hug Bundle

Posted on - 18/12/2012

Great news – the Bessie May Hug, 7 ball bundle, from the Let’s Knit Magazine Christmas Competition has be selected. After looking through loads of great and imaginative entries, the editors at Let’s Knit Magazine are sending the prize to Maggie Burt, who has decided she will be making leg warmers for Santa’s Reindeer, to keep their legs warm as they land in all the snow.

Hope they appreciate all her hard work…. at the Bessie May Studio we just made a scarf…

Bessie May Seasonal News

Posted on - 20/11/2012

We are so excited at the Bessie May Studio. We are into our second Autumn/Winter Season, which is amazing, and we have been up to loads, so lots to share. We have been busy transforming our website, exhibiting our yarns and meeting some amazing knitters, yarn addicts, and Bessie Mayers.

Bessie Mayers – Sharing

On our blog and ravelry pages it is great to see and share the amazing designs that are being created in our yarns, so please do share them with us, as we love to see what is being made, and pass on the inspiration.

Designs

Other things that we have been up to, include producing our patterns and sharing these, which we are focusing on hugely at the moment. Design of accessories being a priority focus for us, with new ones busy being sampled by our expert knitters before we release them.

Yarns

As we commit to offering all of our yarns and yarn colours all of the time we are busy restocking and are having more yarn spun in our mills in Italy as I write this. We just can’t wait for them to arrive.

Based on customer feedback, we have added additional colours to our Snug Yarn, which is our chunky fine merino wool, which we are pleased has been so well received, and is a unique yarn in this weight. Currently available in deep solid Bessie May colours, but expanding shortly, so will share more soon – we know they are going to be so lovely.

We are also designing the next yarns to grow our ranges, but all a secret at the moment. We have a few designs under evolution. We are sure they are going to be a real treat.

Knit Kits

It was real fun meeting our customers at the recent Knit and Stitch Show at Aly Paly, and the enthusiasm for yarn and knitting was just four days of pleasure for us.

Based on this experience and the response to Knit Kits we are adding these to our offering also, as quickly as we can. We want them to be an interesting buy, that provides a pattern and choice of colours of yarn for the required pattern, so when choosing you can get something more personal.

As the kits include only our own patterns and yarns, we can guarantee the quality, and that the finished article will be special.

Our Knit Kits include the pattern free, and 10%-15% off the chosen yarn to complete the pattern, so a bargain as well. They are perfect for gifting or for making that special christmas gift for a friend. We love creating the Knit Kits, and have so many more ideas that we have on our hit list for these, but would also welcome requests and ideas, as we expand them.

Best Wishes

We send best wishes to all our customers, and hope that this update keeps you abreast of Bessie May and where all our hours of time go. At this point in the season I am sure scarfs, mitts, hats are top of the list, so we are continuing to create these so keep checking our site for the latest accessory ideas, patterns and kits, and let us know what you think.
